Project title:
ICT-mediated livelihood training of women in vegetable production in the western rural area of Sierra Leone

Brief description:
The objectives of the project are to:
1.Conduct an environment scan on the extension service provision for vegetable producers and use the findings to interact with stakeholders for the planning of an ICT-mediated programme in training Women in producing crain-crain and okra vegetables.
2.Conduct planning workshop for preparing extension agents in training women using ICTs for developing their functional literacy skills in crain-crain and okra production to improve their economic situation.
3.Procure ICTs and conduct training workshop for the preparation of learning materials for the functional literacy programme involving the production of crain-crain and okra.
4.Reproduce and distribute the learning materials to the extension agents and women participants and managing (supervising, monitoring coordinating) the training of the women in using ICT materials and engaging in livelihood activities of producing crain-crain and okra.
5.Evaluate achievement of the performance of the extension agents and the women participants in the teaching and use of the ICT mediated livelihood training and the overall effectiveness of the project.

Brief description of Organisation:
Njala University College founded in 1964 to train Agriculturist and Teachers in various disciplines for both Primary and Secondary Schools. There were thus two faculties i.e. Agriculture and Education at the inception of the college which was established by the Government of Sierra Leone with assistance from USAID using the university of Illinois as sub-contract. A third faculty of Environmental Sciences was added in 1988 to train students in various disciplines. There are eighteen Academic Departments offering various programmes at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels leading to Certificates, Diplomas and degrees at the level of Bachelors, Masters and Ph.D.’s current student roll stands at ca.2500, while academic staff strength is ca.150.

Njala University College is at the throes of being transformed into a full fledge university which will also incorporate the school of Hygiene and the Paramedical School. This would lead to the establishment of new faculties of Community Health Sciences, Technology, Social Sciences, and Forestry and Silvi culture.Brief description of Organisation
